City Showcase Series: By Alis Forlì

By Alis, an Italian fashion house based out of Forlì with a commercial headquarters in Milan, designs womenswear for ladies who don’t want to sacrifice style for functionality and comfort. Created by Alessandra Navetta, who according to the brand is an architect dedicated to the fashion world, the line showcases highly structural pieces fashioned from substantial materials like neoprene that hold their shape while you inevitably rush to class or work, maintaining the integrity of the look as it’s put to the test.

This brand prides itself on creating and distributing l’abbigliamento artigianale, or artisanal clothing, and in doing so it supports one of the country’s greatest markets and helps to fortify a weakening economy doing what Italy does best: Fashion. Artisanal crafts are absolutely vital not only to the maintenance of Italy’s economy, but to the preservation of its rich history. The designers of By Alis stay close to home in  Forlì to remain immersed in the relatively small community’s artisanal atmosphere and continue to harness its unique aesthetic.

Whereas most streetwear tends to be fairly masculinized even in collections geared toward women, By Alis presents garments that can be paired perfectly with edgier streetwear pieces like leather joggers, Doc Martens or high tops to add a ladylike touch. On the other hand, the brand’s flare for romanticism can be taken all the way in gorgeous neoprene digital prints like the floral peplum blouse at the bottom left of the gallery above if styled with flowing tea length skirts or cigarette pants. If there’s one thing this label absolutely nails, it’s versatility (but quite honestly, it seems to nail everything it tries).

By Alis also manages to combine its more rustic artisanal roots by paying homage to Italy’s historic love of detailed mosaics with its penchant for perfectly current streetwear cuts like boxy crops, hot-pants and tailored jackets stripped of their more old-fashioned lapels. That, my friends, is no easy feat. And remember…

Non si può parlare del mondo della moda senza menzione dell’influenza italiana, vero?

Ciao ciao ragazzi!
